On April 8-10th, our chapter hosted our annual mom’s weekend! Parents weekends are weekends that everyone always looks forwards to. It’s amazing to show your mom around campus and the fraternity, have them meet or reconnect with other fraternity brothers and their moms, and just having fun over the weekend. This year was extra special because it was the first time our chapter has hosted a moms weekend in three years because of the pandemic. It was great to be back in person and be able to host this weekend for our moms!
We started off Saturday morning with a brunch at the chapter house. We had an array of bagels and cream cheese, with coffee and other drinks. We spend a little while introducing our mothers to everyone and showing them around the chapter house. It was great for some of the older brothers to meet the moms of the newer members too. Towards the end of this, we all went outside and took a group photo in front of our chapter house, all repping the dope purple Pi Kapp Moms Weekend sweatshirts. Shoutout to brother Zeke Velazquez for bringing the “The Best Mothers Raise Pi Kapp Brothers” banner that we hung on the outside of our house for the weekend.
We all then went to Wildwood Saloon, located on the eastern side of Iowa City. It was a cool spot where we were able to order food and drinks. There we also had wonderful Stevie with Brush and Barrel all set up to go with our painting session. Each mom and brother were able to paint their own canvas as Stevie and her assistants walked us through all the steps. It was a super fun and lighthearted class, and all the brothers and moms enjoyed it.

We left it up to individual brothers and pledge classes to figure out their dinner plans around Iowa City. Later that night, older brothers and moms met up in downtown Iowa City to hang out and see campus at night. Overall it was a super fun weekend and we love whenever we’re able to have out moms come out to Iowa City to meet our chapter brothers and have fun!
Like any big event, we post our chapter activities on our Instagram page. One cool thing is that Pi Kappa Phi Nationals reached out to us after seeing our post, asking for them to have some more pictures and information about our event. Our moms weekend got showcased and posted on our Nationals Instagram page a few weeks later on Mother’s Day which was really cool to see!
